Town Advisory boards to meet
The Paradise Town Advisory Board has scheduled its biweekly meeting for 7 p.m. today at the Paradise Recreation and Community Services Center, 4775 S. McLeod Drive.
The Winchester Town Advisory Board has scheduled its biweekly meeting for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.
The Whitney Town Advisory Board has scheduled its biweekly meeting for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Whitney Recreation Center, 5712 E. Missouri Ave.
The Sunrise Manor Town Advisory Board has scheduled its biweekly meeting for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hollywood Recreation and Community Services Center, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd.

Local historian plans street name origins lecture
Mark Hall-Patton, director of Clark County Museums, is set to speak from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Cora Coleman Senior Center, 2100 Bonnie Lane. Hall-Patton is one of the experts tapped frequently on the reality show hit "Pawn Stars," and he is the author of "Asphalt Memories: Origins of some of the Street Names of Clark County." He is set to speak on the origins of many of the valley's street names. For more information, call 455-7617.
Recreation centers to host classes
The next session of classes at Clark County recreation centers are set to begin the week of Aug. 8. Centers offer classes in arts and crafts, dance, fitness and martial arts and more. Prices range from free to $60.
Classes are offered at the following Sunrise- and Whitney-area recreation centers: Hollywood Recreation and Community Services Center, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd., 455-0566; Paradise Recreation and Community Services Center, 4775 S. McLeod Drive, 455-7513; Robert E. Seniors to go behind scenes on trip to Silverton aquarium
A trip for seniors 50 or older to the Silverton aquarium, 3333 Blue Diamond Road, is scheduled to leave the Parkdale Senior Center, 3200 Ferndale St., at 10:30 a.m. and return at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday . Participants are set to get a backstage tour of the mermaid show and see tropical fish, sharks and stingrays. Lunch is planned at a local restaurant. Participants are responsible for their own expenses. Registration is required.

Teens and adults welcome at SkyJam
Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park hosts SkyJam, an athletic social event limited to participants 16 or older, from 10 p.m. to midnight every Friday at 4915 Steptoe St., Suite 400.
The $15 admission includes two hours of jump time, two slices of pizza and a soda.
The center also hosts dedicated jump times for younger teens and toddlers.

Funeral planning seminar planned
A free funeral planning seminar is scheduled form 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 3 at Parkdale Senior Center, 3200 Ferndale St. The presentation by O'Neequa Rae, family services counselor for Thomas & Jones Funeral Home, is set to cover aspects of funerals including budgets, final requests, legalities and other issues. Episodes of the "Dean Martin Variety Show" are scheduled to be screened at 11:30 a.m. the first four Tuesdays in August at the Cora Coleman Senior Center, 2100 Bonnie Lane. Caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's can participate in support group
A free support group for caregivers coping with loved one's suffering from Alzheimer's disease is scheduled to meet from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hollywood Recreation and Community Services Center, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd. The group is for adults 18 or older. For more information, call 455-0566.
Quilting class meets at Hollywood

Kids' skating contest planned
For the Kids, a skateboarding contest and community gathering with vendor booths, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at SkateCity Indoor Skateboard Park, 4915 Steptoe St. Entry fees for skaters in all divisions is $7. A portion of the entry fees and all booth fees will be donated the Boys & Girls Club.

Seniors can compete in pickle ball
Pickle ball play is scheduled from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. today and Aug. 2 at the Paradise Recreation and Community Services Center, 4775 S. McLeod Drive.
The game is a combination of lawn tennis, badminton and tennis. Participation is for seniors 50 or older and is free, but players must sign up for a free Cactus Room membership card. For more information, call 455-7513.

The Parkdale Senior Center, 3200 Ferndale St., offers free regular board and card game sessions.
On Monday, cribbage is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Wii bowling is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, canasta and hand and foot are scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Scrabble is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Chinese mah-jongg and Yahtzee are scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m., and pinochle is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, the Wii bowling league is scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration is required at the center.
