Town advisory boards to meet
The Paradise Town Advisory Board has scheduled its biweekly meeting for 7 p.m. today at the Paradise Recreation and Community Services Center, 4775 S. McLeod Drive.
The Winchester Town Advisory Board has scheduled its biweekly meeting for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.
The Whitney Town Advisory Board has scheduled its biweekly meeting for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Whitney Recreation Center, 5712 E. Missouri Ave.
The Sunrise Manor Town Advisory Board has scheduled its biweekly meeting for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hollywood Recreation and Community Services Center, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd.

Speedway to host lucas oil night
Lucas Oil Night at the Races is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 7000 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The event is to include a variety of races, including the 75-lap Lucas Oil Modified Series. Advance tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and military, $6 for kids and $24 for a family four-pack. Sam Boyd Stadium prepares
Gridiron for football season
Sam Boyd Stadium at 7000 E. Russell Road is preparing to host football games by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Rebels and the two-time defending champions of the United Football League, the Las Vegas Locomotives.
A team-sponsored Fan Fest is scheduled before every Locomotives home game with food and games and a chance to meet the Locomotion dance team. Coaches and players will be available after home games for autographs and pictures.
The Regional Transportation Commission offers special buses to transport fans to UNLV home games. Route 602 departs from Tropicana Avenue, just east of Las Vegas Boulevard, stops at UNLV and continues to Sam Boyd Stadium approximately every 20 minutes. Route 601 loops between Tropicana Avenue east of Boulder Highway and the stadium approximately every 20 minutes.

ON WARDING OFF BARK BEETLES
Learn how to protect your home from the invasive bark beetle with help from University of Nevada Cooperative Extension volunteers. Master Gardeners are equipped to provide information on recognizing problems as they first arise, before extensive bug damage occurs.

SENIOR COMMUNITY EVENTS SCHEDULED
Food for Health and Soul is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. every Thursday through Sept. 29 at the Doolittle Senior Center, 1930 N. J St. The event, slated for those 50 or older, is free with a $2 annual membership. Registration at least one week in advance is required. This five-class series is designed to help participants prepare family recipes for better health. Enrollees must commit to attending all five classes. The event is sponsored by the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.
Free bingo is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. Advance registration is required. Call 229-1515 for more information.
A Health & Wellness Awareness Fair & Luncheon for those 50 or older is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center. A 1 p.m. luncheon is set to follow. NV ENERGY SOLAR ENERGY REBATE PROGRAM TO RUN THROUGH SEPT. 28
NV Energy's Solar Energy Rebate Program is open for applications Friday through Sept. 28.
Customers who submit their application in the two-week period will be part of an application process on Sept. 30 for the available rebates. More rebates will be available in the first half of 2012.
Customers also can take advantage of other rebate programs, including solar hot water heating, and wind and hydro rebates. Customers can visit nvenergy.com for more information about how to apply.
SEPT. 28 DOWNTOWN WALK TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL ACTIVE AGING WEEK
Locals 50 or older are invited to celebrate National Active Aging week Sept. 25 through Oct. 1 by participating in the Expand Your Experience Downtown Walk scheduled at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 at the Neon Museum Boneyard, 810 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
