Sweet Sunday at Providence

Who can eat the most ice cream? Find out Sunday during the Sunny 106.5 Ice Cream Sunday at The Promenade Park inside the Providence master-planned community in northwest Las Vegas. There will be free ice cream and family activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meadow Gold will provide the frozen treats for the day. For those up to more of a challenge, ice cream-eating contests for children and adults will be hosted by the Providence Master Homeowners Association.

In preparation for the free event, Meadow Gold is sharing some fun facts about its products and the black- and white-spotted Holstein cows that produce its milk.

■ A dairy cow drinks 67 quarts of water daily — about a bathtub full.

■ A cow produces 90 glasses of milk a day, and 200,000 in a lifetime.

■ All cows are females. Bulls are male.

■ A cow has four stomachs.

■ Children, ages 2 to 8, should have three servings of milk daily to help teeth and bones grow strong.

■ Nine- to 18-year-olds should have four servings of milk or milk products daily.

■ It takes 29 cups of milk to make 1 pound of butter.

Other activities include bounce houses, petting zoo, entertainment by Amazing Clowns and craft, food and information booths.

Attendees are invited to bring new and gently used books for the nonprofit Spread the Word Nevada, which makes it possible for children to experience the magic of books.

Ice Cream Sunday is presented by Sunny 106.5 KSNE-FM radio, Providence Master Planned Community, Providence Master Homeowners Association, Meadow Gold, Reddy Ice and Team Ford.

The Promenade Park is at 7195 Egan Crest Way, north of the 215 Beltway and Hualapai Way exit.
