Teacher allegedly used treehouse to lure student for sex

A North Kansas City, Mo., School District teacher allegedly enticed a student to have sexual relations with him inside a tree house. The mother of the 13-year-old issued a warning Tuesday to other parents.

The Northgate Middle School teacher quit before investigators began searching his computer, phone and online school district accounts. KCTV5 is not identifying the teacher at this time because no criminal charges have been filed.

The girl's mother says her intuition told her something was wrong when she noticed her daughter was having trouble sleeping and her behavior changed. So she started her own investigation into what was going on. Her instincts caused her to check her daughter's phone.

KCTV5 News is concealing the mom's identity to protect the identity of her daughter.

"Always pay attention to what your children's actions are. The way they eat. The way they sleep," the mom said.

She says she found texts between the student and former teacher and called police. According to court documents, the teacher is accused of using Facebook and texts to tell the 13-year-old to sneak out of her grandmother's house to meet him in a treehouse to have sexual relations.

"He had been meeting her there every single night from midnight until 4-5 a.m.," the girl's mom said. "The treehouse is for little kids. It is not for a 31-year-old."

The girl's mother is frustrated by the situation.

"To find out he had picked her up and taken her to his house," she said. Inside the girl's tree house, police found blankets and a pillow. It appeared it had been used as a bed. They are searching the man's computer and phone.

"When you delete something off of a phone, it is not really gone on a smartphone. You can delete it all you want, but it's always there and they can always find it," the girl's mom said. The mother wants justice.

"I just don't want it to happen to anybody else. I just want it stopped. I just wish every person like that could be stopped," she said. A spokesperson for the North Kansas City School District said the teacher resigned on May 1, and district officials are cooperating with police in their investigation.
