The quiet arrest of a well-connected Vegas guy

Consider this one to watch.

Longtime Vegas guy Jed Baron faces five counts of wire fraud in a federal case that has emerged from the Eastern District of California. Details of the case, which is under seal, remain sketchy. I’ll keep digging.

Here’s what is known. An arrest warrant was returned against Baron on May 31. A search warrant was executed in June on Baron’s home office in Las Vegas, where street sources inform me computers were seized.

Baron, 54, was booked at the Sacramento County jail on June 26. He entered a not guilty plea on June 27. A detention order was signed the following day. He was being held without bail, according to available documents.

Translation: This investigation isn’t over. In fact, I suspect someone would like to keep it off the radar.

Las Vegas history buffs will remember Baron is the son of the late Teamsters financial fixer Alvin Baron, who helped Argent Corp. boss Allen Glick receive a loan from the mobbed-up Central States Pension Fund to purchase the Stardust. Before he ran into trouble, Al Baron took over as the loan facilitator for Al Dorfrman, who ran into legal difficulties and eventually received the Chicago Outfit's point-blank retirement plan.
