BAND DIRECTOR AWARDED FOR INNOVATIVE TEACHING STRATEGIES

The Public Education Foundation honored Travis Pardee, Foothill High School’s director of bands, with the Myra Greenspun Teacher Excellence Award on April 21.

He is also set to receive $3,000 to be used for his classroom, school or professional development and an honorarium of $1,000 and 500 points to the foundation’s Teacher EXCHANGE, a resource center for Clark County School District educators.

The award recognizes a public school teacher who is successful in using innovative teaching strategies and raising student achievement.

Pardee began teaching at Foothill High School in 2002. Since that time, the school has become a nationally recognized program for music, and the band has almost tripled in size to nearly 350 students.

LIBRARY TO HOST RESUME AND JOB SEARCHING CLASS

A resume building and job searching class is set for noon May 26 at the Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway.

The course is set to cover how to design a resume using Microsoft Word 2013 and how to find jobs using various websites. Participants must know basic computer functions. Registration is required.

LANDWELL CO. DONATES LAND TO CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

The LandWell Co., developer of the Cadence community, donated a 14-acre parcel of land to Lake Mead Christian Academy.

The new campus is set to be an expansion of the school’s existing 5.6-acre location, 540 E. Lake Mead Parkway, which was also donated by the company in 1995.

Located in Cadence, the expansion is scheduled to serve grades 7 through 12 and open in August 2016. The first phase of construction is set to include an academic building with 25 classrooms, a multipurpose room and a sports field.

Nevada JobConnect provides free employment-related services, such as job referrals and boards, resume-writing assistance, resource centers with computers and more.
