The Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave., plans to present dancer Amira in "Amira's Winter Frolic," scheduled for noon Saturday. She is set to talk about the cultural aspects of belly dancing and health benefits associated with it. Following the lecture, she will perform some of her favorite Middle Eastern dances. The Ward 4 free holiday movie in the park event is planned for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Police Memorial Park, 3250 Metro Academy Way. The Family Lunchtime Movie Matinee series at the Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive, plans to screen "Aladdin" at noon Dec. 5.

The We Knead The Dough Gingerbread Festival is slated for noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 8 at Faith Lutheran Jr/Sr High School, 2015 S. Hualapai Way. Las Vegas families are invited to celebrate the holidays at the giant gingerbread festival, which is set to feature more than 40 gingerbread houses, 1,000 gingerbread people, entertainment, a pizza lunch by CiCi's, visits with Santa Claus, carnival-style games and children's activities. Admission is $15 and includes a gingerbread cookie-decorating kit, pizza buffet and carnival games. For $50, guests can decorate their own gingerbread house. The Lakes Festival of Lights and Boat Parade for all ages is slated to begin at noon Dec. 8 at the Lake East Drive-Lake Sahara Drive intersection, next to Lake Town Center commercial plaza. Parking and admission are free. The street will be blocked off, and parking will be available in the Citibank lot at 8701 W. The 18th annual Shoes for Children shoe drive and benefit performance plans to present "The Threepenney Opera" by the Ira Aldridge Theatre Company of Nevada at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12 at the Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center Theatre, 1771 Inner Circle Drive. The show is an adaptation of the 18th century "The Beggar's Opera." Admission is a new pair of children's athletic shoes sized to fit preschoolers to high school youths. The exhibit "Tony Hawk Rad Science" is scheduled to run through Jan. 20 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. The exhibit allows visitors to put themselves into the role of skateboarders and scientists as they explore more than 25 interactive experiences. It is presented by the Tony Hawk Foundation in conjunction with the Las Vegas Natural History Museum.
