Too damn late to pretend you’re a brave leader now

After how President Obama put politics above the lives of our ambassador and three Americans in Benghazi, Libya, it's impossible to now give him any credit for leadership for Hurricane Sandy.

This morning the White House announced that the president would cancel political trips and stay behind in Washington, D.C., to address the nation on the storm bearing down on the East Coast.

Well, isn't that special. Just a month ago he watched in real time as four Americans died in a terrorist attack. Two of the Americans held on for more than seven hours, asking three times for reinforcements and a rescue. The cowardly White House sent none. Didn't even try.

In the morning, Obama woke up, addressed the nation in what sounded like almost an afterthought, and then flew off to Las Vegas for a meaningless campaign speech. Even though the president now says he knew the deaths were at the hands of terrorists, he left for Vegas without meeting face-to-face with the National Security Council.

Those are the facts. And they are beyond dispute. President Obama is now trying to tiptoe through the election without all of the facts coming out on the debacle in Benghazi.

So, excuse me if I don't fawn over the White House announcing that the president is foregoing a few political stops so he can remain in harm's way of Sandra.

It's too damn late to pretend you are a brave leader now, Mr. President.

PS: On a Nevada note, one of those killed in Benghazi was a Henderson resident. Yet, both Democrat leaders Sen. Harry Reid and Rep. Shelley Berkley (who all the time pander to veterans) have not called Obama's cards on this cowardly turn of events. If they cared at all about Nevada veterans, they'd be demanding the president come clean on this. The fact they have not done so just means that they would put the life of a soldier above their own petty political interests.

PPS: If I sound highly pissed about this, it's because I am. What happened in Benghazi is a tragedy and this cover-up just isn't right.

PPPS: In a way, I'm glad former Gov. Mike O'Callaghan isn't around to witness all this. He'd be going ballastic over Benghazi and (if I may use the president's language) the bull**** behavior of Reid and Berkley.
