Towbin to unveil Continental Supersports, Bentley’s fastest model

Towbin Motorcars will preview the Bentley Continental Supersports concept car Saturday at Towbin Motorcars, located at 2550 S. Jones Blvd.

Carolynn Towbin, chairwoman of Towbin Automotive Group, said the new Continental Supersports is the quickest car in the Bentley fleet.

"Bentley takes the best and makes it better through phenomenal performance and a car created through the desire to explore new limits," Towbin said. "We are really looking forward to showing this car to our customers. It embodies the ultimate driving performance that they have been waiting for, created by the car's speed and sleek design."

Towbin Motorcars' General Manager Troy Thompson said the Continental Supersports is the most powerful Bentley ever made. It has a completely new and unique functional design.

The distinctively styled bonnet air vents remove any hot air above the engine, while the dramatic vertical front intakes create an aggressive look. The overall effect of this design is to draw attention to the corners for a wider, lower stance while drawing in air to feed the charge coolers behind. Inside, the signature premium-grade leather and brightware are united with carbon fiber and Alcantara to add style but also reduce weight to enhance agility.

The new rapid and instinctive quickshift transmission maximizes the Continental Supersports' potential. Delivering double downshifts and improved acceleration across the entire gear range, it helps propel the aerodynamic form to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 204 miles per hour.

The Continental Supersports uses FlexFuel technology to ensure that the engine can run on bioethanol, gasoline or any mix of the two. Biofuel is blended with gasoline in a variety of percentages ranging from E10 to E85. Biofuel plays an integral role in helping Bentley achieve its far-reaching environmental strategy. The first stage is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by at least 15 percent across the entire range. The second stage is the introduction of a new powertrain offering a 40 percent improvement in fuel efficiency and the third is to make 100 percent of the range compatible with renewable fuels. All three stages will be complete and available by 2012. This commitment takes shape in the Continental Supersports, a supercar that is capable of running seamlessly on bioethanol (E85) gasoline or a mix of the two and delivers a net carbon dioxide reduction of 70 percent on a well-to-wheel basis without sacrificing performance and luxury.

Towbin Motorcars is taking orders for the Continental Supersports, which will be available to test drive by the end of the year.
