Video appears to show officer punching pregnant woman
A video surfaced this week appearing to show a Texas police officer punching a 38-week pregnant woman in handcuffs.
Deanna Robinson told the attorney’s office that he beat her in her kitchen in her Quinlan, Texas, home, according to RT. Two officers are seen restraining her in the corner of her kitchen as she yells and tells them she’s pregnant.
They were in the process of removing a child from her home on March 4, according to WFAA. Toward the end of the video, an officer is seen punching Robinson twice.
Hunt Country Sheriff Randy Meeks said Wednesday the deputy isn’t facing any disciplinary action.
“I have requested that the Texas Rangers conduct an independent investigation into this incident in the interest of transparency and preserving public confidence in the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office,” Meeks said. “I believe before judgment is rendered the whole truth needs to be examined.”
He says the footage was shot on a motion-activated camera, and that there are gaps in the recording. He believes Robinson was reaching for the officer’s gun.
After Robinson, a decorated Air Force veteran, and her husband got into a physical altercation, her nine-year-old stepson told a teacher who then reported it to Child Protective Services.
Her toddler, along with three stepchildren are in temporary CPS custody. Her infant son is in the care of Robinson’s parents.
