Where’s Mark Twain when you need him?
May 20, 2011 - 5:34 pm
Mark Twain as a young newspaperman was once asked by a windbag politician why his speech wasn't covered by the newspaper. Twain said it was because the newspaper feared it'd run out of the letters "I".
To get that joke, you have to know that in those days before pixels, type was set letter by letter and there were only so many letters available for each edition.
Which leads me back to this wonderful observation in the Drudge Report: "I ME MINE: Obama praises CIA for bin Laden raid -- while saying 'I' 35 times."
You can find Drudge here.
You can find the "I" laden Obama remarks here.
Wish we had a Mark Twain in this Washington press corps.
(Postscript: Hope you all have a good End Of The World Day tomorrow. I tee off at 3 p.m. I will be very upset if I'm even par on 16 and the world comes to end. That would just be cruel.)
