White House can’t explain its own pay disparity
April 8, 2014 - 9:20 pm
On a day when President Barack Obama took a bow and proclaimed support for strengthening equal pay laws, his own administration struggled to explain it’s failure to pay women equally with men.
Pretty much par for the course for this form over substance administration — don’t pay attention to what we actually do, pay attention only to what we say.
As CNN reported: “However, the fact that even an administration that prides itself on having made its first priority signing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law, hasn’t achieved equal pay for equal work demonstrates the complexity in reaching complete parity, said Jennifer Lawless, director of Women & Politics Institute at American University.”
Ahhh. I see. It’s a complex thing. Private enterprise, however, gets hammered if it doesn’t make it all work out equally. But when the federal government and the White House doesn’t do it, it’s just “complex”.
What a crock. This is just another “if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor” moment for this presidency.
The unvarnished truth remains: The Obama Administration pays women staffers about 88 cents on the dollar compared with male staffers.
Do you laugh or cry?
