Young cancer patient’s wish to ride in Mustangs comes true

Team Ford Lincoln Mercury declared Feb. 22 as "Dylan's Day" in honor of 11-year-old Dylan Woods, a Ford Mustang fan who has cancer.

Three years ago, Dylan was diagnosed with gliomatosis cerebri, a brain tumor, and given six months to live. One of his dreams was to ride in a Mustang.

Team Ford Lincoln Mercury, the Las Vegas Mustang Club and many caring volunteers made Dylan's dream come true by supplying 30-plus Mustangs for him to choose from. Classic Mustangs of the '60s to today's latest models were available for Dylan, and he rode in almost all of them.

"Cool! Thank you," Dylan said, with tears beginning to swell in his eyes. "Thank you!"

The first Mustang Dylan climbed into was the pace car for this year's Shelby American 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway -- a 2010 Shelby Ford Mustang GT350. He also received tickets to all three days of races and events courtesy of legendary racer Carroll Shelby.

"Make-a-Wish Foundation let Dylan be fire chief for a day and now this," said Rainy Woods, Dylan's mother. "What Team Ford Lincoln Mercury has done today is amazing -- simply amazing. (Dylan) loves Mustangs; in fact, he was asking me the other day how much they cost and could he save up for one."

Chris Goeschel, general sales manager of Team Ford Lincoln Mercury, said, "Team Ford Lincoln Mercury always goes big with these things. Not one Mustang, over 30; not a hat, but a dozen of them; not a toy Mustang for his room, but a ton of them. Like I said, Team Ford Lincoln Mercury and the Las Vegas Mustang Club go big for kids in need."

Las Vegas Mustang Club President, Larry Garetta, said the same thing about his group. "We got more Mustangs out for this then we do for our Mustang Events ... it's for the children, Dylan loves Mustangs and we owed it to him to show up in force."

The members of the Mustang Club took turns giving Dylan rides all afternoon. One Mustang smoked its tires and sped away with Dylan, raising the bar for his rides to follow.

Located at U.S. Highway 95 and Ann Road, Team Ford Lincoln Mercury features sales, service and parts, with a wide selection of new vehicles, a free arcade, free Wi-Fi, the Cobra Café and more. Team Ford Lincoln Mercury prides itself on giving the customer a great buying experience. Visit www.TeamFord.com for more information.
