Homicides in Las Vegas area getting worse?

2016 was a record year for homicides in Southern Nevada, as the valley was swept up in a spike in violent crime that has not gone away.

Review-Journal records show 109 confirmed homicides had been investigated in Clark County as of the end of June.

An analysis of that data shows 64 percent of those deaths were the result of gun violence

And similar to last year, much of that violence — a third of the deaths – was directed at the valley’s young people 25 and under.

Six of those homicides were small children, all but one of which were the result of child abuse, according to police.

The youngest victim was only 25 days old.

Marcus Thomas Jr. was with his parents at their apartment complex when someone opened fire on their car.
