St. Pierre wins; Lesnar-Mir have slow start

Slow start for Lesnar-Mir

All the buildup to the UFC 100 heavyweight title fight between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir led to a first-round letdown.

Lesnar jumped on top of Mir and the two wrestled throughout most of the first round. Lesnar threw almost all of the punches that landed and Mir was bloodied and busy trying to defend himself. The fans even booed at times, and Lesnar clearly won the round.

St. Pierre grinds out win

Georges St. Pierre retained his welterweight title by winning a tough five-round decision against Thiago Alves. St. Pierre won every round on all three judge’s scorecards.

St. Pierre’s popularity in the UFC made it surprising that the betting action was heavy on the underdog. St. Pierre closed as a minus-220 favorite after the line soared as high as minus-330 this week.
