Fire damages Wal-Mart garden center in Las Vegas

A garden section at Wal-Mart caught fire Sunday morning, in the northeast part of the valley, according to the Las Vegas Fire department.

Firefighters responded about 2:40 a.m., to the Wal-Mart at 201 North Nellis Boulevard near Stewart Ave., for wood pallets and cardboard boxes on fire outside in the garden section at the back of the store, spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

Three automatic fire sprinklers kept the fire under control until firefighters arrived and put the fire completely out.

The fire sprinklers prevented the fire from entering the store, Szymanski said.

There was no damage to the interior of the store and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, a damage amount was not immediately available.
