Montana firefighters rescue more than 100 animals from burning mobile home

KALISPELL, Mont. — Authorities responding to a mobile home fire in Evergreen found more than 100 animals inside.

Flathead County Animal Control officers found 15 dogs, more than 50 exotic birds, an unknown number of rabbits and several geckos.

The Daily Inter Lake reports wood chips lined the floor of the home and bird cages were stacked along the walls.

Evergreen Fire Rescue Capt. Wayne Evert says it was lucky no animals died in the fire.

Flathead County Sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Stahlberg says he does not believe charges will be filed against the home’s owner, but that the county would focus on finding places for the animals.

Owner Kathy McKeeman says she knows there may be too many animals, but she loves them and cares for them.
