Vacant home catches fire

The Las Vegas Fire Department responded to a fire near Sahara Avenue and Valley View Boulevard early Monday morning.

The fire was “heavy” when firefighters arrived at the vacant one-story house at 3017 Alcoa Avenue around 1:30 a.m., according to Las Vegas Fire spokesman Tim Szymanski.

The fire did not spread to neighboring homes.

The house was vacant, but Szymanski said neighbors have seen homeless people in the house. No one was injured in the fire.

Damage was estimated at $150,000. The back of the house was gutted and smoke caused damage throughout the house.
