Las Vegas NHL franchise hires Vaughn Karpan as director of player personnel

Las Vegas’ new NHL team doesn’t have a name, but its list of personnel is rapidly expanding.

In the past week, Vojtech Kucera was announced as the director of European scouting and David Conte was hired as a professional scout. On Tuesday, the franchise announced Vaughn Karpan had been hired as the director or player personnel and Bruno Campese had been hired as an amateur scout.

Karpan had been with the Montreal Canadiens since 2005 and had taken over as the team’s director of professional scouting in 2015. Before that, he had served as both an amateur and professional scout during his time with Montreal.

Karpan, 55, also spent more than a decade working with the Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes before joining the Canadiens.

He competed twice with Team Canada in the Winter Olympics in the 1980s during his playing career.

Campese, 53, most recently was a head coach at the Okanagan Hockey Academy in Penticton, British Columbia. Before that, he held roles ranging from director of hockey operations to general manager to head coach with the Prince Albert Raiders, the Penticton Vees, the Calgary Hitmen and Trail Smoke Eaters.

During his playing career which lasted through the 1980s and ’90s, Campese played in two different leagues, including the Western Hockey League.
