UNLV active in going after recruits for 2017 class

ESPN.com has released its rankings of top 100 basketball recruits for the 2017 class, and UNLV has made offers to several of those players.

Three locals are among those players: Charles O’Bannon Jr. at No. 23, Troy Brown Jr. at No. 28 and Oshae Brissett at No. 81.

O’Bannon, a 6-foot-5-inch guard from Bishop Gorman High School, is a five-star recruit. He also is listed as the sixth-best shooting guard, and in addition to UNLV is considering Arizona, Kansas, North Carolina State, Oregon, Texas, UCLA and Washington.

Brown, a 6-6 forward from Centennial High, received four stars and is listed by ESPN as the fifth-best small forward. Other top offers have come from Arizona, Arizona State, Duke, Georgetown, Kansas, Louisville, Oregon, UCLA and USC.

Brissett is a 6-6 forward from Mississauga, Ontario who attends Findlay Prep. He is a four-star recruit and No. 16 small forward. Oklahoma, Oregon, San Diego State, UCLA, USC and Utah are among those schools that have made offers.

ESPN listed eight other highly recruited players also considering the Rebels.

* Trevon Duval, a 6-3 guard from Wilmington, Delaware. The five-star recruit is ranked No. 5 overall and No. 1 at point guard. Other top offers include Arizona, Kansas, Louisville, Oklahoma, Oregon, Syracuse and Villanova.

* Kevin Knox, a 6-8 forward from Tampa, Florida. Five-star recruit is seventh overall and the second-best small forward. Other top offers include Duke, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Syracuse and Xavier.

* Brian Bowen, a 6-7 forward from Saginaw, Michigan. Five-star recruit is 10th overall and No. 3 at small forward. Other top offers include Indiana, Iowa State, Michigan State, Texas, UCLA and Vanderbilt.

* Billy Preston, a 6-10 forward from Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Five-star recruits is 13th overall and No. 3 at power forward. Other top offers include Arizona, UConn, Kansas, Kentucky, Oregon, Texas and USC.

* Nojel Eastern, a 6-6 guard from Evanston, Illinois. Four-star recruit is ranked No. 74 overall and No. 22 at shooting guard. Other top offers include Illinois, Iowa State, Michigan State, Ohio State, UCLA, USC and Xavier.

* Royce Hamm, a 6-8 forward from Houston. Four-star recruit is No. 83 overall and No. 17 at power forward. Other top offers include Houston, Kansas State and Miami.

* Christian PoPoola Jr., a 6-3 guard from Gorman. Three-star recruit is ranked the No. 60 point guard. Other top offers include Memphis, New Mexico, Oklahoma, San Diego State, Southern Methodist and USC.

* Greg Floyd Jr., a 6-8 forward from Desert Pines High. Two-star recruit is listed as the No. 63 power forward. Other top offers include Arizona, Colorado State, Fresno State, Memphis, Miami, UNR, New Mexico, Oregon, San Diego State, USC and West Virginia.
