Man wore GPS monitoring device during burglary, police say

Homosassa, FL —- Deputies arrested a Homosassa man they say burglarized a home while wearing a GPS monitoring device.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office was blunt in assessing the wisdom of the alleged crime in a Facebook post.

Don't be this guy: Redford Mounce, 36, of Homosassa, decided it would be OK to burglarize someone's residence by taking $500 in change when they weren't home. Aside from the fact that stealing is wrong, Redford made another critical error. He was wearing a GPS monitoring device because he is already on probation for another crime. So, what's the moral of the story? We'd like to hear your thoughts.

According to deputies, Mounce left his home on Nov. 13, went to a nearby Walmart store and walked around for a short time.

He left the store and used a trail at the southeast corner of the property to walk to his girlfriend's house on South Sesame Street. From there, he entered the screened porch area of an adjacent property and stole a coin jar.

Surveillance video shows Mounce returning to Walmart and using the store's Coin Star machine to turn some of the change into a cash voucher, according to Mounce's arrest report.
Deputies say they were able to trace Mounce's steps through his GPS monitor's tracking history.

A preliminary background check indicates Mounce qualifies as a habitual felony offender under Florida law, the sheriff's office said.
