2. Heritage Festival & Parade: The free city of Henderson event is slated for April 23 in the Water Street District, kicking off with a Mayor & Council Breakfast at 9 a.m., followed by a parade at 10 a.m. along Water Street from Ocean Avenue to Victory Road. Festival activities are planned from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and live entertainment is scheduled to start at noon at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St. Food vendors also are planned. The event aims to celebrate the city’s history and its incorporation, which took place April 16, 1953. Boys & Girls Clubhouse fundraiser: A fundraiser to help the support the Mary & Sam Boyd Clubhouse in Henderson is planned from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 21 at Lovelady Brewing, 20 S. Water St. The Boyd & Girls Clubhouse reported 22 shattered windows and over $22,000 worth of damage over a week ago. The fundraiser will feature local beers provided by Lovelady Brewing, Joseph James Brewing, Barleys Brewing, Bad Beat Brewing and CraftHaus. A pulled pork slider dinner will be provided by Emerald Island Casino. The brewers are offering a donation of $4 per $6 pint purchase and all proceeds from the $5 per plate dinner sales will go to the clubhouse to help with repairs.

Gardening classes: The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners and the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department plan to host the free series at 9 a.m. Saturdays in April at Acacia Park, 50 Casa Del Fuego St. The schedule is: April 23, Growing Roses; and April 30, The Plant Detective. Wisdom flow yoga: Instructor Maria C. Wisdom flow is rooted in Vinyasa yoga and has an emphasis on moving the body’s core, and participants are set to learn the foundation and principles of proper body alignment. Rose Garden: Forty-four varieties of roses can be viewed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Southern Area Master Gardener’s Rose Garden, 8050 Paradise Road. Rose varieties include hybrid teas, floribundas, shrubs, rugosas, damasks, noisettes and miniatures. The beds have engraved signage bearing the names of the roses, the varieties and the year of market introduction. The garden recently received a certificate of achievement in the Small Garden class during the national Sunshine ‘n Roses Pacific Southwest District’s annual convention. The district spans Southern California, Arizona, parts of Nevada, New Mexico and West Texas. The garden is maintained by Master Gardeners and members of the South Valley Rose Society. Kickball tournament: The inaugural Kick-It Las Vegas event to benefit Speedway Children’s Charities is set from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 23 at UNLV’s intramural fields on the corner of Harmon Avenue and Swenson Street. Anyone 6 or older is eligible to play, with teams of 12 to 15 players squaring off in a bracket-style tournament for prizes.
