Hue are you?

Color. It’s all around us. From the ground to the sky and the clothes in our closets to the walls in our homes, color is an integral part of our lives and affects our moods and feelings.

Entertainment niches have built-in decorating dilemmas

I’m often called upon by homeowners and designers alike to help with a problem inherent in numerous homes across the Las Vegas Valley and beyond. It’s then that I put on my “cabinetry hat,” take a deep breath and do my very best to solve the dilemma of what to do with those nasty entertainment niches left behind by well-meaning architects and builders.

Glass shades favored in early 1900s

Electric lamps with glass shades were popular from the 1870s to the 1920s. Because a light bulb could face down, not up (like a candle flame), and was cool enough for a shade with a closed top, the use of glass shades became possible. And as very up-to-date, unusual and attractive objects, glass-shaded lamps became expensive status symbols.

Landscaping is the responsibility of management, not builders

Q: I live in an association that will eventually have 95 homes. The development is about 2 years old. Currently, there have been 52 homes sold. Given the current economical condition, the remaining units are estimated to take another two years to sell. Our covenants, conditions and restrictions indicate we must have a three-person board of directors, of which we are entitled to one seat when the community is 25 percent sold. The remaining two seats will come to us when 75 percent of the community is sold, perhaps toward the end of this year. Additionally, the association appears to be cash strapped with only 52 homes paying monthly dues.
