Getting big bucks will cost big bucks

CARSON CITY — Nevada moved a step closer Tuesday to getting a “stimulus czar” to keep tabs on money coming from federal grants.

A public option that destroys all options

George Orwell is alive and writing new fiction about Congress legislating expanded government control of health care. Or at least it seems that way.

Pay as you go? Ha!

The House of Representatives voted 265-166 last week for a Democratic “pay as you go” bill that would require automatic, across-the-board spending cuts should a year-end review show that new appropriations do not balance with revenues.

They come to believe they’re entitled

Although powerful Democratic Sens. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut and Kent Conrad of North Dakota — whose committees oversee the mortgage banking industry — claimed they had no idea they were getting special mortgage deals from Countrywide Financial Corp., an official who handled their loans has told Congress in closed-door testimony the pair were indeed informed at the time they were getting special deals.

Also, the Rio decided to indefinitely close its adult-themed Sapphire Pool after it failed an “integrity check” by Metro police on Saturday, the property’s owner confirmed late Tuesday.
