Journalists to launch News Corp’s iPad newspaper

LOS ANGELES — Stop the presses – completely. The world’s first iPad newspaper, The Daily, is prepping for launch. Journalists have been hired and are in place at multiple U.S. bureaus, including Los Angeles and New York. The formal announcement of the digital publication owned by News Corp. will be made at an event at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art on Jan. 19, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Couple sentenced for stealing money meant for poor

Melanie Cholewinski, a former Clark County welfare worker, was ordered Wednesday to spend two to five years in prison for stealing taxpayer money meant for the poor. Cholewinski’s husband, Michael Wayne Brown, was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison. The couple also must pay $91,241 in restitution to the county.

Palin: Journalists incite hatred after Arizona shooting

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Sarah Palin posted a nearly eight-minute video on her Facebook page early Wednesday, accusing journalists and pundits of inciting hatred and violence in the wake of a deadly Arizona shooting that gravely wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Last spring, Palin targeted Giffords’ district as one of 20 that should be taken back. Palin has been criticized for marking each district with the cross hairs of a gun sight.

Silvano Vinceti claims he has found the letter “S” in the woman’s left eye, the letter “L” in her right eye, and the number “72” under the arched bridge in the backdrop of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting.

Actor David Nelson of famous TV family dies at 74

LOS ANGELES — David Nelson, who starred on his parents’ popular television show “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet,” has died. He was 74. Nelson, who was battling complications of colon cancer, died Tuesday at his Los Angeles home. Nelson was the last remaining member of the Nelsons TV family, which included actor/bandleader Ozzie, his singer wife, Harriet Hilliard and his teen idol brother Rick. The show ran for 320 episodes on TV from 1952 to 1966.

Angle defends herself against ties to Arizona shooting

Sharron Angle on Wednesday rejected criticism that she shares responsibility for creating a charged political atmosphere that might have contributed to the attempt to assassinate Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz. Six people were killed and 14 were wounded, including Giffords.
