Prosecutor says gunman’s 10 years in prison reflects real world

When Judge Robert Lane announced the maximum sentence Tuesday of nearly 10 years for Joseph Patrick Lamoureux, he was implying that in the real world of today’s overcrowded prisons, minimum sentences turn out to be the maximums that many felons serve. That’s according to Nye County Chief Prosecutor Kirk Vitto. He was granted consecutive maximum terms for Lamoureux, who agreed to plead guilty to two felonies for a Sept. 19, 2008, shooting spree at Terrible’s Lakeside RV Park in Pahrump that wounded sheriff’s Deputy Eric Murphy.

Business Hall of Fame adds gaming officials, Sun publisher

Since stepping down as CEO of what was Harrah’s Entertainment, Philip Satre has joined four corporate boards, two of them as non-executive chairman. And Donald Snyder delved into several projects, notably spearheading construction of the Smith Performing Arts Center, after leaving as president of Boyd Gaming in 2005. Satre and Snyder, along with Barbara Greenspun, publisher of the Las Vegas Sun until her death last June, will be inducted into the Nevada Business Hall of Fame tonight.
