Local DJ enjoys selling cars at Planet Hyundai Centennial

Todd Fowler wears two hats. He’s not only a sales consultant at Planet Hyundai Centennial, but also a radio disc jockey at KXPT 97.1 The Point.
Every other week, the personable Fowler, 56, plays Classic Rock from the 70s and 80s. His shift covers Monday through Friday, 7 p.m.-midnight, and every Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
“I grew up in the car business,” said Fowler, an Equus-certified personal valet for the buyer who picks up the car for service after the sale. “My dad was a plant manager for a Chrysler plant in Detroit and I grew up a car guy. I built model cars when I was young and actually wanted to be a car designer.
“I fell into the radio business by accident in 1977 in Detroit working for a freeform rock station — WABX — the second-oldest freeform rock station in the country behind KSAN of San Francisco.”
Fowler said the two industries — the car business and the radio business — dovetail into one another and he loves his role working double duty.
“They’re both all about communications,” said Fowler. “I sell cars and work in radio because I love both industries”
Fowler said he loves the car business because it gives him the chance to help someone purchase what has been proven to often be the second highest investment of a person’s life, only behind that of purchasing a home.
“I get a real rush out of selling a car because you’re sincerely helping someone,” he said. “We don’t want to rush people into buying a car. I want to treat people the way I want to be treated when I buy a car.”
“You have to believe in what you’re selling and that’s why I am at Planet Hyundai. I love what Hyundai has done with its vehicles, anyway, and when the new owners took over, it translated into working for the best people I have ever worked for in the car business.”
