UNLV will open challenging 2016 non-conference baseball slate at Texas

The UNLV baseball team will open its 2016 season Feb. 19 with a three-game series at the University of Texas to kick off a challenging non-conference schedule that also includes road games at Cal State Fullerton and San Diego, home games against Ohio State, West Virginia and Texas Tech and a home-and-home series against Arizona State.

Lauria rejects Phillies’ offer to coach under Chambers at UNLV

Former UNLV pitcher Joey Lauria decided not to sign with his hometown Philadelphia Phillies after being drafted in the 25th round and offered a signing bonus of only $1,000. He instead will be a graduate assistant under coach Tim Chambers at UNLV.

After defeating seventh-seeded San Jose State 2-1 in the play-in game of the Mountain West baseball tournament in Reno, sixth-seeded UNLV lost to third-seeded Fresno State 6-5 to fall into the losers’ bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

UNLV’s baseball game Thursday night at San Jose State was postponed because of inclement weather. It is scheduled to be made up as part of a doubleheader today starting at 3 p.m. in San Jose, Calif.
