No. 1 Bishop Gorman held off No. 2 Coronado to secure an 88-75 home victory in the season opener for both teams Thursday night.

Jamal Bey had 21 points and seven rebounds as Bishop Gorman beat Bishop Manogue 62-41 to claim the Class 4A boys state basketball title. It was Gorman’s seventh consecutive title.
Alexander Spaight averaged 27.0 points in three games in helping Canyon Springs to the Sunrise Region title and is expected to play a key role for the Pioneers when they meet Bishop Manogue in the Class 4A state semifinals.
