Here are the 2018 girls basketball honors, as selected by coaches.
Spring Valley 132-pounder Andres Garcia beat the Sunrise Region champion, the Sunset runner-up and last week’s Sunset Region champion to claim his first Class 4A state championship Friday at The Orleans Arena.
With Cimarron holding a slight lead, Nathaniel Rodriguez scored a reversal with two seconds remaining in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and win the 132-pound region title. In the process, he secured enough team points to help the Spartans bring home the ninth region title in program history Saturday at Centennial.
Centennial’s wrestling team is second in team points after the first day of the Sunset Region meet, and will send six wrestlers to the semifinals Saturday seeking the first region championship in program history.
