CARSON CITY — Waiting to swim the anchor leg of the boys 400-yard freestyle relay, Logan Houck had nothing to do but watch as Palo Verde teammate David Miller opened a two-second lead in the final event of the Division I state swimming and diving championships Saturday at Carson City Aquatic Facility.

With the team standings of the Division I Sunset Region girls swimming and diving meet pretty much a formality, Palo Verde coach Brent Gonzalez had his sights set elsewhere Saturday.
Michael Velazquez set two school records Saturday and helped Green Valley’s boys swimming team to a 190-73 win over Valley at Multi-Generational.
Logan Houck, David Miller and Dylan Sweikert each won one individual event and swam on two victorious relay teams Saturday to help Palo Verde’s boys swimming team to a 174-120 win over Legacy at Pavilion.
Michael Pecjak won two individual events at Municipal on Saturday to help Tech’s boys swimming team to a 124-116 victory over Virgin Valley.
Mason Archer and Bailey D’Alessio each won two events Saturday to lead Sierra Vista’s boys swimming team to a 168-69 win over Spring Valley at Pavilion.
Faith Lutheran senior Bowen Becker could be remembered as the fastest swimmer in Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association history by the end of the season. “I want to be remembered to where people will say my name and actually know who you”re talking about,” he said.
