SUNSET VOLLEYBALL: Revenge-minded Panthers savor win over Mustangs

Palo Verde’s boys volleyball team hadn’t experienced much success against Shadow Ridge in recent years, so the Panthers had revenge in mind when they faced the Mustangs on Thursday in the Sunset Region semifinals at Legacy.

Palo Verde’s boys volleyball team doesn’t have any Division I prospects on its 13-player roster. Nor do the Panthers have anyone taller than 6 feet, or someone physically intimidating at the net.

Valley’s Marty Heavey had 18 kills, and Jared Marchello added 10 kills Tuesday as the Vikings outlasted host Silverado, 25-22, 25-14, 24-26, 22-25, 17-15.

Cole Wilson had 36 assists and nine digs to lead Palo Verde’s boys volleyball team to a 25-14, 25-15, 17-25, 26-24 victory over visiting Legacy on Friday.

Branson Diaz had 20 kills and four blocks, and Shilo Chow dished out 51 assists to go along with four kills, three aces and three digs as Foothill’s boys volleyball team outlasted Rancho, 29-31, 25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 15-12 on Wednesday.
