Canyon Springs
No decision was made Thursday after the Canyon Springs football team’s appeal was heard regarding the use of an ineligible player. A decision is expected Friday morning.
The Patriots led 12-0 in the first half and twice after halftime but couldn’t hold on in a 36-33 loss to Libery (Arizona) at home Friday night.
Jayvon Pugh scored three times for the Canyon Springs football team Friday, including an 84-yard touchdown reception on the first play of scrimmage, to lead the Pioneers to a 49-0 road victory against Eldorado.
Sure enough, league play in the Class 4A Sunset Region and Class 3A starts this week, the true indicator that summer is done. Even Bishop Gorman is taking a break from irking out-of-state fanbases to play a Southwest League contest against Bonanza. (I didn’t include that game in my picks, but, spoiler alert, Gorman is going to win.)
