The hotel-casino also plans to end health benefits for the former staff members Friday.
A rule change that would allow more small gaming businesses to take advantage of the Paycheck Protection Program has not satisfied Nevada lawmakers in both parties, who say those businesses are still being treated unfairly.
“If workers aren’t working and not getting paid, they do not pay dues,” union spokeswoman Bethany Khan told the Review-Journal. She added that nearly all of the union’s 60,000 members are laid off.
The Hard Rock’s renovation is still on schedule, President and CEO Richard “Boz” Bosworth said, but the economy is in turmoil with record job losses, and there are still plenty of unknowns.
