FIELDER’S CHOICES: Seven-out-of-eight right justifies some gloating

If you saw me at school this week, you probably noticed the huge smile on my face and the extra bounce in my step. No, I didn’t get a date for homecoming yet, but I’m still feeling quite chipper. That’s what happens when you correctly predict seven out of eight prep football games like I did last week.

Basic’s boys cross country had four of the top six finishers, including race winner Steven Birch, on its way to victory in a Southeast League meet at Foothill on Wednesday.

Marico Davis stole home as part of a double steal with no outs in the top of the eighth inning Wednesday, and Arienn Ackerman added an RBI double later in the inning to help Las Vegas High’s softball team to a 6-4 win at Silverado.

BASEBALL: Campbell’s suicide squeeze lifts Roadrunners by Cowboys

Rylee Campbell’s one-out suicide squeeze with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh Wednesday brought home Sebastian Fitzgerald and gave Tech’s baseball team a 6-5 win over Chaparral at Arroyo Grande Sports Complex.
