Audrey James — a retired teacher who lives in North Las Vegas — is believed to be UNLV’s oldest living alumna. And she may also be the university’s first African American graduate.

Signature Preparatory, a tuition-free public charter school with about 600 students in kindergarten through eighth grade, opened in August on South Boulder Highway.
The students won the competition’s “Mission 2” challenge, open to third- through 12th-graders. There were three divisions: elementary, middle and high school.
