Small Plates: Bier Garten and ‘The Nolan Ryan Beef & Barbecue Cookbook’

The Bier Garten, which opened in early spring, is outdoors on the Plaza’s frontage on Main Street. Its site includes almost 3,000 square feet of grass, trellises with vines and a wall of more than 900 plants, which help create an atmosphere reminiscent of the leafy beer gardens of Bavaria.

Al’s does sandwiches the Chicago way, and that’s a good thing

Al’s is in a former 5 & Diner — one of those big silver classic-diner things — and wears it well. And yes, this is the Al’s from Chicago, founded in 1938. It’s a franchise, but the Al’s folks take the reputation of their restaurants very seriously.

Espresso-rubbed pork tenderloin to highlight five-course dinner

Tequila Corralejo will be featured in a pairing dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Border Grill at Mandalay Bay. The five-course dinner is $150, or $75 for members of the Border Grill VIP Club and will have an entree of espresso-rubbed pork tenderloin.

Small Plates: Kitchen Creations Cafe and ‘Homemade Doughnuts’

Kitchen Creations, a new venture from Opportunity Village, opened in March. Mauro Lara, the organization’s chief operating officer, said food service and training has long been one of its focuses, with commercial kitchens at two of the group’s campuses.
