Coronado’s Victoria Estrada shot 1-under-par 71 Tuesday to win the individual title by five strokes and lead the Cougars to the team title at the Class 4A girls state Tuesday afternoon at the Eagle Valley West Golf Course in Carson City.

It was Joe Sawaia’s Coronado Cougars who best navigated the difficult conditions in the first round of the Class 4A girls state golf tournament Monday afternoon, leading by 16 strokes despite posting their highest score of the season at 317. Bishop Gorman was second at 333, with Palo Verde third at 360.
Coming off a record-setting performance last week in the region tournament, Coronado’s girls golf team will go for its third consecutive state title — and a little more history — when the Class 4A tournament tees off Monday in Carson City.
The Coronado girls golf team broke the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association’s postseason record Monday by finishing 6-under-par 282 as a team, and the Cougars rolled to their fourth consecutive region title at the Chimera Golf Club.
