4A STATE SWIMMING: Palo Verde boys, girls add to championship haul

Palo Verde’s girls swimming and diving team won its third consecutive 4A state championship Saturday at the Carson Aquatic Facility, while the boys team won its fifth consecutive title with not nearly as much drama or challenge.

The Cougars led the way on the scoreboard in both the boys’ and girls’ meets to clinch a pair of Sunrise Regional titles at UNLV.

SUNRISE VOLLEYBALL: Shaun Kampshoff sparks Las Vegas to five-set win over Green Valley

Trailing 10-8 in the fifth set on Thursday, Las Vegas High’s boys volleyball team closed the match on a 7-2 run to knock off Green Valley — the defending state champions — with a 25-17, 21-25, 25-27, 25-21, 15-12 victory in the Class 4A Sunrise Region semifinals at Coronado.

SUNRISE SOFTBALL: Sam Pochop sparks Rancho to win over Liberty

Sam Pochop launched a two-run homer to left field to give her team the lead, and Rancho never looked back en route to a 13-4 victory over host Liberty in a winners’ bracket semifinal of the Class 4A Sunrise Region softball tournament.
