Las Vegas a hotbed for high school mariachi

Del Sol Academy of the Performing Arts’ mariachi group Encendido finished in the top five at the national mariachi competition in San Antonio in November 2017. The group just missed the top five at last year’s competition, which featured 29 groups from 16 cities, Guadalupe said. Las Vegas Academy of the Arts in downtown Las Vegas placed third last year, behind two high schools in Texas.

Henderson’s closed Black Mountain golf course vexes neighbors

Black Mountain-area residents expressed concerns about rodents and the upkeep of a recently closed golf course, as well as the threat of unwanted development there, at a neighborhood meeting Feb 11. Neighbor Janel Potucek accused the private owners of Black Mountain Golf Country Club of not watering the grounds, prompting 10 to 15 rabbits to find refuge in her backyard.

Golden Knights working to bring ice rink to Henderson

The proposed facility would house two rinks and occupy the site of the Henderson Convention Center at Water Street and Atlantic Avenue, records show. The project would take up 3.2 acres, according to city documents.

Henderson mayor angling for re-election, 2 years before term ends

The Rebel Legion Coruscant Base began cheering up children in hospitals three years ago and now does so monthly. The all-volunteer group visits at least 10 children at each hospital, usually unannounced.
