Born on May 4, 1988, in a Henderson hospital, Rebekah Johnson was the youngest person injured in the historic PEPCON explosions.
Henderson fire Capt. Don Griffie, now retired, was one of the first to arrive at the scene of the PEPCON fire and subsequent explosions. In his recurring nightmares, he’s forced to relive every detail of the May 4, 1988, events.
The 1988 event could be felt throughout the valley and would later be described as the largest domestic, non-nuclear explosion in recorded history.
