Nevada Guard MPs train in Vegas for deployment

With a helicopter whirling overhead and paint-ball guns aimed at targets on the horizon, a contingent of Nevada Army National Guard military police soldiers rehearsed Wednesday for a yearlong tour in Afghanistan where they will replace the first wave of about 30 MPs who deployed last year.

 
Video of suspect in Friday shootings released

Cassandra Cassidy, 24, of Las Vegas, was gunned down in the 1300 block of Westwind Avenue, near Jones Road and Charleston Boulevard Friday night by people in a white two-door car, Las Vegas police said.

The designer of the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign, Betty Willis, 91, died Sunday at home in Overton, about 65 miles northeast of Las Vegas. That same day, Brian “Buzz” Leming, 74, also died. Leming worked on neon icons including the signs for the Stardust, Barbary Coast and Westward Ho.
