A major student loan collecting company agreed to cancel $1.7 billion in debt and pay over $140 million in other penalties to settle allegations of abusive lending practices.
More than $1 billion has been poured into the nonprofit trust for Clark County schoolteachers and families — with little financial accountability in place.
Fourteen undergraduate college students participated in a 16-week paid internship program this fall at Desert Research Institute, part of the Nevada System of Higher Education.
