A man arrested in connection with a four-decade-old slaying near Reno is suspected by authorities in two other, similar killings that took place around the same time.
Forty years after the murder of a woman whose body was found in the remote hills north of Reno, DNA evidence led Washoe County sheriff’s deputies to arrest a man in connection with the case, which is eerily similar to another unsolved murder that took place the same year.
Authorities say Juan Hernandez, 25, was dressed as the Joker and identified himself to police as the main character in the film, Arthur Fleck, when he was arrested on Oct. 27.
Stefon Demar Jefferson, 43, still faces three murder charges in California for the killings the same day of men in Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco.
A 10-month investigation into a Boulder City-based drug trafficking organization led to the arrests of 10 people in October, police said.
Lawyers told the high court a Washoe County grand jury had no authority to indict the suspect for two of the killings that occurred outside the county.
