After six minutes in court Monday, Samuel Gallardo returned to state prison facing at least three more years on his sentence, but knowing that the family of the man whose death he caused had forgiven him.

The Caldor Fire’s gallop toward South Lake Tahoe eased throughout the day Wednesday, with the fire still swelling to nearly 208,000 acres but containment also increasing to 23 percent.
The advancing 58,000-acre Tamarack Fire south of Lake Tahoe, which crossed into Nevada from California on Wednesday, prompted Douglas County officials and Gov. Steve Sisolak on Friday to declare a state of emergency.
“Our primary goal is to ensure we don’t let any doses go to waste. We want to maximize every dose that comes into the state — and avoid expired or unused doses,” he said.
