The Southern Nevada Blue Sox – comprised of players from Basic and Green Valley High Schools – defeated Centennial 12-2 Thursday night in the American Legion State Tournament at UNLV’s Wilson Stadium.

Here is the schedule and scores (when available) for the American Legion state tournament, being held July 23-30 at UNLV.
Centennial scored 12 runs in the first two innings, and used a 16-hit attack to defeat Silverado 16-1 Wednesday night in the American Legion State Tournament at UNLV’s Wilson Stadium.
Silverado pitcher Kevin Pindel’s personality strongly resembles his style on the mound. The 6-foot-1-inch, soft-spoken right-hander is not a power pitcher, but he can deal well enough to make a point.
The Blue Sox are the top seed in the double-elimination tournament, which ends July 30. The team is carrying over Basic’s momentum from winning the school’s first state baseball title in 29 years in the spring.

Frank Sessa hit a three-run home run in the third inning to lead the Sunset to an 8-3 win over the Sunrise in the Division I All-Star Game at the College of Southern Nevada.
Centennial rising senior Jamaal Evans became the second area QB to make an oral commitment for 2017 when he recently pledged to UNR.
Basic scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and rolled to a 9-1 win over Centennial for the Division I state championship at Bishop Manogue High.
Trent Bixby’s two-run triple highlighted a three-run fourth, and Basic went on to beat Galena 7-3 to move into the championship game at noon Saturday at Manogue. Basic (35-4) faces Centennial (29-10), and the Bulldogs would have to beat the Wolves twice to take the title.
Ryne Nelson, wearing No. 29, singled home Gehrig Timmons with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Wolves a 3-2 win over Reno in the Division I state tournament at Bishop Manogue High.
Basic (33-4) plays Reno (28-6) in the second Division I game at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Manogue High in Reno. Centennial (27-9) plays Galena (27-7-1) in the 1 p.m. game.
The Wolves used a balanced attack on offense, a handful of defensive gems and the arm of sophomore C.J. Dornak to post a 6-0 victory over visiting Green Valley to claim the Division I Sunrise Region championship. The win locked up a berth in the state tournament, which begins on Thursday at Bishop Manogue.
