Arbor View and Desert Pines are embracing the opportunities they have against Liberty and Bishop Gorman, respectively, in Friday’s Class 5A Southern Region semifinals.

Arbor View’s football team rebounded from last week’s disappointing loss at Liberty by taking out its aggression on Orem (Utah) in a 31-6 home win Friday night.
Tony Fields, a 6-foot-2-inch, 205-pound linebacker, has been one of the area’s most heavily recruited players this spring. He has 19 scholarship offers — Northwestern was the most recent on April 30 — and his family has racked up plenty of hotel points over the past month and a half making unofficial visits on the weekends.
Bishop Jones and Alex Sims each signed a national letter of intent with Southern Utah on Wednesday, the first day recruits can make their commitments binding. They were two of 10 Arbor View athletes who signed during a morning ceremony in the school’s gym in front of more than 50 friends and family members.
Arbor View played Friday night without Curtis Jones, its leading rusher and one of Southern Nevada’s top running backs, but thanks to Morris Jackson, the Aggies’ potent double-wing ground attack didn’t miss a beat.
If there were any worries about a sandwich game Thursday for Arbor View — after last week’s three-overtime win over Coronado and before next week’s annual Battle of the Bulls at Legacy — they were quickly squashed.
