Jared Smith carded his second straight 1-under-par 71 to easily win the Class 3A boys state golf tournament. He’s the first Western player to win the individual title since Joel Kijowski in 1996. Boulder City captured the team title for the first time since 2006, winning by one stroke over Spring Creek.

Pahrump Valley’s Austen Ancell shot 3-under over the final five holes Monday to finish with a 6-over-par 77 and place second overall and top among Southern Nevada boys golfers after the first day of the Class 3A state tournament at Spring Creek.

Palo Verde had three of the top six finishers Wednesday and posted a 376 total to edge second-place Faith Lutheran (381) in a Northwest League boys golf match at Highland Falls.
