WINNEMUCCA — Green Valley’s quest to win a fourth straight state wrestling title got off to a solid start on the first day of the Division I tournament Friday.

Darrion Daniels had 19 points, and Valley’s boys basketball team made 25 of 31 free throws to hold off host Canyon Springs, 71-68 on Monday.

Capricia Pierce’s layup as time expired Friday lifted Western’s girls basketball team to a 49-48 win over visiting Clark.
