Palo Verde
Several games around the valley were decided in the final minutes Friday, which made for an exciting night,
Here are the all-league and all-region teams, as selected by coaches.
Tyler Edlefsen and Trajan Houston each won two individual events Saturday at Pavilion to lead Palo Verde’s boys swimming team to a 213-70 win over Faith Lutheran.
Allison Wiegand won two individual events on Saturday to lead Silverado’s girls swimming team to a 116-85 victory over Canyon Springs at Multi-Generational.
Rancho’s Teleda Williams and Gizelle Reid set the top two times in the state so far this season in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes and helped the Rams’ 400-relay team to another lopsided victory in the Skyhawk Invitational at Silverado.
Arbor View’s Keith Williams led at the front of a pack of five runners early. Eventually, he managed to hold off PahrumpValley’s Bryce Odegard and Centennial’s Alexander Miller in the final quarter mile, putting in a good finishing kick to cross the line in 16 minutes and 13 seconds.
Jalen Malone tipped in Reggie Ingram’s miss with a second left in overtime Friday to give Eldorado’s boys basketball team a 68-67 home victory over Mojave.
Centennial’s Raul Saucedo and Justin Madsen each went 2-0 in singles on Wednesday to lift the Bulldogs’ boys tennis team to a 10-8 win at Legacy.
Tjaden Giles went 3-0 in singles to help Basic’s girls tennis team edge Silverado 10-8 on Wednesday.
Sure enough, league play in the Class 4A Sunset Region and Class 3A starts this week, the true indicator that summer is done. Even Bishop Gorman is taking a break from irking out-of-state fanbases to play a Southwest League contest against Bonanza. (I didn’t include that game in my picks, but, spoiler alert, Gorman is going to win.)
Blake Porter”s grand slam with two outs in the top of the seventh inning Monday keyed a seven-run uprising that helped the Palo Verde baseball team to an 8-4 win over Carson (California) in the Blazer Spring Bash at Centennial.
Adrian Ojeda and fellow senior Robert Razo each won individual state titles at Star of the Desert Arena, helping Green Valley capture its fifth consecutive team championship at the Division I state wrestling tournament.
